FlexShade ZIP XL offers durable exterior shading with ZIP retention for wind resistance, reduced deflection, and stability at wider widths.

The FlexShade ZIP XL delivers heavy-duty exterior sun control for larger commercial openings, using an enhanced ZIP 127 headbox and integrated cradle support system to reduce deflection and maintain stability at wider widths. Its ZIP retention system secures the fabric edge inside inner channels in the side guide for improved light control and reduced movement. Wind tunnel tested, the ZIP XL withstands high wind speeds for reliable shade performance. When used as an exterior window shading solution, it blocks solar heat before it reaches the glass to help lower HVAC loads, while covered outdoor areas — such as patios, garages, and food service spaces — benefit from added glare reduction, wind protection, and insect control.

ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 Child Safety Standard

Effective June 1, 2024, in compliance with the updated ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 child safety standard, all Draper window shades operated by a bead chain will be furnished with a tensioned hold-down device that is permanently attached and partially disables the product if not installed correctly. This hold-down should be installed with tension on the chain.

All bead chain operated window shades will include:

Permanently installed spring-loaded tensioned hold-down device
Approved permanent warning label attached
Approved mechanical fasteners for the tension device included. Screws provided are not suitable for all mounting surfaces. The installer is responsible for secure mounting using appropriate hardware for the site conditions. Consult with contractors and builders as needed.

If the tension device is not installed with appropriate tension on the bead chain, the shade will be rendered partially inoperable. If installed properly, the tension device will prevent the creation of a hazardous loop and will maintain tension on the bead chain.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades - Part 2: Cassette Mounting

To Mount the headbox on a Wall or ceiling using cassette brackets, simply attach the cassette brackets to the mounting surface using #10 flat head screws. It is the installer’s responsibility to choose the length of #10 flat head screw appropriate for the mounting surface. The mounting brackets must be installed level with each other. Be sure to drive the screws in flush with bracket.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades - Part 2B: Direct Mount Instructions

To mount the headbox permanently, you will first need to attach the mounting brackets to the headbox as a spacer between the headbox and the wall. Be sure to leave a 1¾" (45mm) gap between the end cap and mounting bracket.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades - Part 4: Limit Setting

To begin programming with your remote, first connect power to one motor. Select a transmitter channel to assign that particular motor unit. Hold the UP and DOWN buttons until the motor jogs, and then release. Note the motor direction. To reverse the direction, hold the MY/STOP button for 5 seconds until the motor jogs. Failure to complete this step can only be corrected with a motor reset.
