The welded ZIP fabric attachment and unique side channels ensure a sealed enclosure for existing garages, porches, patios, pool houses, and outdoor commercial food service areas. Easily create outdoor workspaces, elegant areas for dining and entertaining, or relaxing outdoor niches that are protected from the sun, wind, rain, and pesky insects. When used as an outdoor shading system, FlexShade ZIP prevents heat from entering a building and helps to lower HVAC costs.

Product Specs

Available in sizes up to 16' wide x 10' high (488 cm x 305 cm), depending on fabric selection.

Two headbox sizes available: ZIP 92: 3-5/8” high (92 mm) headbox and ZIP 127: 5” high (127 mm) headbox.

Side channels can be jamb or face mounted.

Side channel width is only 1-3/4" (44 mm).

Hardware finish is textured powder coat available in white, black, ivory, sand, charcoal bronze, or silver (smooth finish). Custom powder coat colors available.

No light gap at side channels for complete edge blackout system.

Can serve as an operable insect screen or room divider.

Provides excellent protection against wind.

Weighted hem bar to stabilize shade during operation.

Product designed for exterior and interior use.

UL Listed.

ANSI/WCMA A100.1 Compliance

If clutch-operated roller shades are installed in an environment where it's possible that young children will be present, they should comply with ANSI/WCMA A100.1, the Standard for Safety of Window Coverings.

If the shades that you purchase need to comply with this standard, it is your responsibility to inform Draper and opt-in to receive compliant products at time of order.

Compliant window shades will include:

Pre-installed spring-loaded chain tension device with bead chain threaded through it
Approved permanent warning label attached
Approved mechanical fasteners for the tension device included

If the tension device is not installed properly, or becomes unattached from the mounting surface, the shade will be rendered partially inoperable. If installed properly, the tension device will prevent the creation of a hazardous loop and will maintain tension on the bead chain. The tension device and label require tools to be removed.

Testing

The testing required by the WCMA for products to comply with safety standard A100.1 includes:

UV stability testing - AATCC Test Method 16 for UV Stability
Impact testing - ASTM D5420
Bead chain durability testing
Operation cycle testing - 3,000 cycles per the standard

Our spring loaded tension device passed the requirements of these tests.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades – Part 1: Site Preparation

To prepare the site for installation, first make sure the mounting surface is strong enough to bear the weight of the full FlexShade ZIP assembly. It is the responsibility of the installer to use appropriate fasteners for the mounting surface.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades - Part 2: Cassette Mounting

To Mount the headbox on a Wall or ceiling using cassette brackets, simply attach the cassette brackets to the mounting surface using #10 flat head screws. It is the installer’s responsibility to choose the length of #10 flat head screw appropriate for the mounting surface. The mounting brackets must be installed level with each other. Be sure to drive the screws in flush with bracket.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades - Part 2B: Direct Mount Instructions

To mount the headbox permanently, you will first need to attach the mounting brackets to the headbox as a spacer between the headbox and the wall. Be sure to leave a 1¾" (45mm) gap between the end cap and mounting bracket.

For instructions on preparing your site for proper product installation and mounting of the FlexShade Zip Motorized Shade headbox, please see the previous instructional videos in this series. These instructions do not apply for installations using the ZIP 127 angled headbox.

FlexShade Zip Exterior Motorized Roller Shades - Part 4: Limit Setting

To begin programming with your remote, first connect power to one motor. Select a transmitter channel to assign that particular motor unit. Hold the UP and DOWN buttons until the motor jogs, and then release. Note the motor direction. To reverse the direction, hold the MY/STOP button for 5 seconds until the motor jogs. Failure to complete this step can only be corrected with a motor reset.
