GreenGuard logoGreenGuard Certified Fabrics for Window Shades

In today’s world of conservation and rising energy costs, it is important to keep a handle on your building’s energy consumption. One of the easiest ways to do this is with the use of the sun’s natural light. Natural sunlight provides a building with free light and keeps it warm at the same time. Many studies have found that the sun’s natural light helps productivity and learning as well. At the same time, however, sunlight can overrun a facility causing problems such as high energy costs for constant air conditioning, eyestrain from glare on computers, hot spots in the building and lethargy in employees. Draper window coverings can keep out heat, glare, and in some styles still maintain a view for people inside the building. Draper also has fabrics that have been GreenGuard certified as low in emissions which contribute to a healthier environment.

Draper’s broad range of FlexShade fabrics allows you to choose from a variety of ways to control the light and heat entering a room. Choosing the right fabric can make a tremendous difference in the glare and heat control in your room. Draper is one of the first manufacturers to offer GreenGuard Children and Schools(SM) Certified fabrics for a healthier environment. Our GreenGuard Children and Schools(SM) certified fabrics are listed here.

Draper's Unique Range of Fabrics plus Solar Control Options Help the Environment

EcoVision LogoDraper window coverings from our EcoVision line of products have fabrics that offer unmatched flexibility in managing energy consumption. Our unique range of energy-efficient and sustainable fabrics is complemented by programmable controls that can allow for individual, group or individual and group operation based on user input, weather conditions or sunlight levels.

One of the latest technological advancements for buildings is the use of a solar tracking system. This system takes into account your position on the globe and interfaces weather station data with the movements of your shades. Another alternative is RS 232 control, which offers great programming flexibility. RS 232 control can be managed from any convenient on-site computer system. For more information about controls, see Draper’s “Raw Materials Savings” to the right.

The Best of Both Worlds: Manage Energy Costs and Keep Your Outdoor View

Window shades are the most effective and flexible way to receive the benefits of daylight, yet manage the light and heat entering a room. Control the heat and light, and you have control over energy costs. While any shade fabric on the window is better than no fabric at all, selecting the right color and type of fabric will maximize energy savings and user comfort.

Darker colors control glare and preserve “view-through” ability. Lighter colors reflect more heat, so less heat is gained in the room (light fabrics create glare and are harder to see through). In the past, you had to balance the advantages and disadvantages, and choose which was most important for your application.

Now with Draper's Duplex Mesh Fabrics we combine the best features of light and dark shades. Duplex fabrics are woven to provide a reflective or white back in combination with a darker color front. A duplex fabric can control heat, like a light-colored mesh fabric, and provide glare control and view-through ability like a dark mesh fabric.

Combining FlexShades with the right fabric and the latest solar control options have potential to contribute to LEED® certification points in a facility: consult one of Draper’s LEED® AccreditedProfessionals for assistance in planning for environmentally effective installations.
